Jays top Springdale in baseball

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Jefferson City earned its third win of the baseball season Wednesday when it defeated Springdale (Ark.) 11-4.

Adam Gundren went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI for the Jays. Gavin Strobel was 2-for-3 with four RBI. Jeremy Light and Ripken Dodson each went 2-for-4 and scored one and two runs, respectively.

Jacob Weirich earned the win, allowing two hits in two scoreless innings. Blaine Meyer and Bret Jaegers also threw two innings apiece, and Gerritt Shirts pitched the final inning.

The Jays (3-4) host Lee's Summit North and Lee's Summit at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

In the JV game, the Jays shut out Springdale 11-0.

Weirich went 3-for-4 from the plate, Logan Schmitz went 2-for-4 and Allan Roettgen was 2-for-2.

Brandon Williams got the complete-game win and struck out four for the JV team (3-0).

On Tuesday, Jefferson City split a freshman-sophomore doubleheader with Hickman. The Jays dropped the first game 15-2 and won the second 7-3.

In the opener, Payton Bodenstad, Michael Skinner, Cade Galbraith and Tucker Jet each had a hit for Jefferson City.

In the second, Joseph Travis threw a complete game and contributed two hits.

The Jays (4-2) play at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Camdenton.
