Helias closes Florida trip with shutout victory

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Helias Crusaders closed their trip to Florida with a 9-0 win Wednesday against Spencerport, N.Y.

Alex Faddoul had four hits, scored twice and drove in two other runs. Alex Barton, Dylan Gaines, Will Blankenship and Chase Bexten all added two hits.

Cole Donaldson threw five innings to get the win, giving up four hits and striking out four. Kale Gerstner allowed three hits in two innings of relief, striking out five.

Helias (3-2) is back in action Monday against Camdenton at the American Legion Sports Complex.

On Tuesday, the Crusaders split a pair of games.

Helias opened with a 12-9 loss to Montini Catholic of Chicago.

Montini scored five runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. After Helias scored twice in the top of the second, Montini came back with seven in the bottom of the inning to take a 12-2 advantage.

Helias scored three runs in the third and two runs in both the fifth and seventh innings.

Faddoul finished with three hits and scored three runs for the Crusaders. Nolan Sachse added two hits, while Todd Buschjost scored a pair of runs. Josh Feather totaled two RBI.

Gerstner took the loss for Helias, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on three hits and seven walks in 11/3 innings. Bexten worked the next 32/3 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out five. Faddoul worked a scoreless sixth, striking out one.

Helias came back to blank Grace Christian (N.C.) 10-0 in a game stopped in the bottom of the fifth inning by the run rule.

The Crusaders scored six times in the first inning, then three times in the third before ending it with a run in the fifth.

Ryan Bounds and Buschjost had three hits each in an 11-hit Helias attack. Faddoul totaled two hits and drove in four runs, while Bexten and Bounds had two RBI each.

Clayton Winter picked up the victory, throwing three innings of no-hit ball while striking out three. Drew Boessen pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out four.

On Tuesday, the Helias JV posted victories against Summit Country Day of Ohio and Edina, Minn.

Helias scored 14 runs in the third inning and defeated Summit Country Day 24-0. Matthew Dampf had five hits, including two doubles in a 21-hit Helias attack while driving in six runs.

Zach Stiles, Ryan Graessle and Cole Fennewald all added three hits. Ryan Gartner had four RBI. Stiles, John McDonald and Boessen all drove in thre runs.

Jake Bahr pitched the first two innings and did not allow a hit. He walked one and struck out three. Noah Wisch allowed two hits and struck out one in pitching the final three frames.

Helias then posted an 11-4 win against Edina. Stiles and Bahr had three hits each. Stiles and Gartner both totaled three RBI, while Dampf scored three times.

Tyler Cassmeyer was the winning pitcher, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out three. Gartner worked the final two frames, allowing two runs (one earned) on a hit and four walks while striking out two.

On Wednesday, Helias played Summit Country Day again, this time winning 19-0.

Cassmeyer had four hits in the win, while McDonald and Gartner had two each. Cassmeyer totaled four RBI, while Stiles and McDonald had three.

Nick Carr tossed a four-hitter in going the distance for the win in the five-inning contest.

He allowed four hits and struck out three for the Crusaders (5-0).
