Hennessy leads way for Jays with bat, arm

WAYNESVILLE, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays defeated the Waynesville Tigers 8-3 on Tuesday.

Jefferson City jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, scoring three times in the second and twice in the third.

The Jays added a run in the fifth to make it 6-0 before the Tigers cut its deficit in half with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Jefferson City answered with two runs in the top of the sixth to make it 8-3.

Jake Pridgin drove in two runs for the Jays, while Travis Hennessy had two hits.

Hennessy also pitched three innings, striking out four, to get the win. Logan Schmitz pitched two innings of relief, while Hayden Hirschvogel and Gerritt Shirts both pitched one. Shirts struck out the side in the seventh.

Jefferson City (2-4) will play today at Springdale, Ark.

The Jays won Tuesday's JV game 15-0.

Schmitz and Allan Roettgen had three hits, while Brandon Williams belted a two-run home run.

Roettgen was the winning pitcher for the Jays (2-0).
