Your Opinion: Concerns about city spending

Dear Editor:

I am a firm believer of the Constitution and that the government should not do for the public (at our expense) anything that the public can not do for themselves. You know such things as the fire department, police and the military and things that the public has a difficult if not impossible task of doing.

We all have a dog in this fight. I shop and pay taxes in Jefferson City and I am in the JC school district.

I see where Jefferson City is setting forth a budget that includes a transit system. Are you telling me that number one the city should own a bus line and number two if it's about people getting to work or Walmart, that taxpayers owe them a ride?

It's bad enough that the city sinks thousands of dollars every month into a golf course that competes with local golf courses.

This is brazen enough but I see where now they want to start serving alcohol to further compete. Wonder if the city has read the warranty deed from Arthur M. Hough that states "No beverage containing any quantity of alcohol, or its substitute, shall ever be used or drunk on said premises" ?

So compete with local businesses, violate contracts (warranty deed) but complain about not having the funds to do the things they would like to do for you the public. I did not bring up the no bid or no competition trash pick up sweetheart deal; I can stand only so much. Are you seeing the hypocrisy here?

I wonder what a golf course (and it's a very nice one) would sell for? I have played on it. But the sale of the course would mean they would have to find a place to spend all that money they pour into it every month.
