Missouri teen struck, killed while waiting for bus

ST. CLAIR, Mo. (AP) - An eastern Missouri teenager has died after being hit by a car while waiting at the end of his driveway for a school bus.

The Highway Patrol says the accident happened shortly after 7 a.m. Friday on Missouri 30 in the Franklin County town of St. Clair.

The patrol's report says a car traveling too fast for the rainy conditions went out of control and hit 15-year-old Donald Tipton, then struck a mailbox and overturned.

Authorities told KTVI-TV the 23-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence. Investigators said the driver may have been street-racing with another vehicle, whose driver has also been arrested.

The Washington Missourian reports that Tipton was a sophomore at St. Clair High School.
