On a rainy night with delays for lightning

Jake Pridgin rushed for 123 yards on 14 carries and ran for two touchdowns in the second half as the Jefferson City Jays claimed a 25-7 win against Hickman on Friday night at Adkins Stadium.

Elijah Pittman had 117 yards rushing on 13 carries and added a 62-yard score to help lead Jefferson City, which improved to 2-1 on the year.

J.T. Bohlken drilled a 28-yard field goal and the Jays' defense forced a safety late in the third quarter to hand Hickman its third straight loss.

Pittman scored on the Jays' first offensive play with a 62-yard carry to give Jefferson City a 7-0 lead with 9:50 to play in the third quarter.

With 6:57 left in the opening period, officials told spectators to evacuate the stadium after lightning was spotted nearby. The delay lasted nearly two hours.

Elijah Crum ran for a 61-yard touchdown on the first play of Hickman's second drive after the break to tie the game at seven with 9:50 to play in the second quarter.

The Kewpies didn't get anything after that.

Jefferson City blocked a punt and recovered the ball on Hickman's 18-yard line to set up a 28-yard field goal for Bohlken to give the Jays a 10-7 lead with 16 seconds left before the half.

Jefferson City recorded a safety with 1:29 left in the third to take a 12-7 lead and Darryl Williams returned the free kick 30 yards to place the ball on the Kewpies' 40-yard line. Pridgin ran up the middle for a 40-yard score on the next play to give the Jays a 19-7 lead with 1:12 left in the third quarter.

Pridgin, who had all his carries in the second half, added his second score of the night on a 2-yard run to give Jefferson City a 25-7 lead.

Hickman was limited to five first downs, two in the second half.
