Jays, Lady Jays second at districts in cross country

CAMDENTON, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays and Lady Jays both finished second Saturday in the Class 4 District 5 Cross Country Meet at Ha-Ha Tonka State Park.

On the boys side, the Jays finished in a tie with Branson at 87 points. But because Jefferson City's sixth runner - Courtney Fitch - finished ahead of Branson's sixth runner, the Jays took the second team spot.

It was a team effort on the girls side as well as Jefferson City had five runners finish in the top 18 individuals as the Lady Jays finished with 63 points.

With their finishes, both teams earned spots in next Saturday's sectional meet at Nixa.

The Jays finished with three all-district runners. Jackson Schwartz led the Jays, taking sixth. Saxon Teubner was 10th, while Eli Jacobs finished 13th.

Four Lady Jays finished in the top 15 to earn all-district honors. Andi Stackman led the foursome, finishing ninth. Kaley Ruff was 10th, while McKenzie Gourley was 13th and Katie Ruth was 15th.

West Plains captured both boys and girls team honors. Also advancing to sectionals on the boys side are Branson and Rolla. Other girls teams moving on are Kickapoo and Branson.
