Luther named director of school public relations group

David Luther will be the first executive director for the Missouri School Public Relations Association, President Michelle Cronk announced Thursday.

The decision to create the position was made by the MOSPRA Board after deliberating internally, visiting with membership and researching the viability of the position.

Luther has served the association as a two-term board member, president and past president, as well as ongoing co-chair of the Spring Conference. He is also the recipient of the MOSPRA Professional of the Year Award and has headed committees for the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).

"We believe David has the character and attributes to lead our association to greater things," Cronk said. "He has an institutional knowledge of MOSPRA as well as 15 years of experience as a school communications professional. Based on our discussions with David, we are confident and excited about his leadership and vision for our association."

Luther will be working to improve membership services and grow the organization.

He said MOSPRA is one of the "premier chapters" of the national organization.

"We are known as a very active chapter with strong membership and outstanding leadership. I'm honored to be the executive director and look forward to serving as an ambassador of the association," he said.

Luther - who is the owner of Luther Communications, LLC - has served as a teacher, coach, library media specialist and communications director for 30 years in Missouri. He and his family live in Jefferson City.
