Fire blamed on kitchen accident

A cooking accident was the cause for a fire at a Jefferson City home early Tuesday morning.

Fire Department reports show the fire was reported just before 2:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Yorktown Drive.

The fire did most of the damage in the kitchen and there was smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.

Damage was estimated at around $30,000.

No injuries were reported as all occupants got out safely and a pet cat was rescued from the home.
