Camdenton prepping for aerial attack

Against Glendale

With last week's close 44-42 win against the Joplin Eagles and a loss by the Battle Spartans, Camdenton clinched home-field advantage through the upcoming districts.

Now the Lakers (6-2) will also have to face a different challenge of a team when they travel to Glendale to face the Falcons (2-6).

While most teams the Lakers have played this year aren't shy about running the ball and throwing occasionally, Glendale has perhaps one of the most extreme pass-oriented schemes in the country, a lot of which has to do with coach Mike Mauk, father and former high school coach of current Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk.

What Glendale doesn't have in wins they make up for in passing yards. Alex Austin, the Falcons' quarterback has 3,180 yards passing on 501 attempts along with 33 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and 58.5 percent completion percentage.

Last year, Austin threw for only 286 yards in 10 games.

However, they've failed to add many more wins since last year when they went 1-9. While Glendale's offense can put a gaudy number of points on the board (they average only 33 points a game, but have scored more than 48 points on three occasions), its defense has been forgiving to opposing offenses.

The Falcons have failed to keep any opponent from scoring less than 39 points in a game, and they're giving up an average of almost 49 points per game.

Oddly, Glendale is only one of two teams this season that has beaten Kickapoo. However, they're coming off of a blowout 49-16 loss to Waynesville, who effectively shut down Glendale's offense by allowing Austin a relatively small 332-yard game.

Camdenton's secondary and pass rush will need to step up if they want to stop Glendale from scoring points, but for the Lakers' offense, they couldn't ask for a better excuse to get some momentum before the playoffs.

This game also all but guarantees running back Josh Martin gets the school's single-season rushing record. He's less than 60 yards away from the mark.
