Storms disrupt Thursday Night Live; Sip n' Stroll still on

A "bleak" forecast has lead to the cancellation of today's Thursday Night Live in downtown Jefferson City, event planner Jill Snodgrass said.

Organizers made the decision to cancel the event just after 11 a.m. today.

"It's supposed to start raining after midnight and rain all day," Snodgrass said in an email to organizers and participants.

In order to set up the stage, lights/sound and the bands' equipment, "We need at least four hours minimum of dry time to make that happen. So even when it stops raining by show time, if we don't have the proper set-up window, our outdoor venue doesn't work," she wrote.

This Thursday Night Live, dubbed "Rocktoberfest," was to feature live music from Jumping Shadows, Driving Wheel and DNA.

But just because the outdoor event has been canceled is no reason not to come downtown tonight, Snodgrass said. She said live music is planned at Spectator's and J Pfenny's, and she's working to get one of the bands that was scheduled to perform at Thursday Night Live to perform at Bones in the Alley tonight instead.

"They shouldn't let the rain stop them from coming downtown," Snodgrass said.

Snodgrass said no make-up date would be scheduled. The next Thursday Night Live will be Oct. 30.

But the Central Missouri Master Gardener's have refused to let the stormy weather dampen the evening they've planned. Organizers confirmed at 11 a.m. today that the sold out event planned in the North Jefferson City area is still on for tonight. That event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Bill Quigg Commons in North Jefferson City.
