Your Opinion: Who will bail out residential utility customers?

Dear Editor:

A question for Mr. Robert Bonney, CEO, Missouri Restaurant Association.

In your letter to the editor of the Jefferson City News Tribune dated Oct. 2 you state that "Small businesses across Missouri need to be able to keep more of their hard earned money. We are paying 40 percent more for electricity than we did just six years ago."

My question for you Mr. Bonney:

Why do you think businesses are the only ones that need a break on their electrical rates? Like you, the consumer of your goods and services are dealing with the same type of rate issues that are affecting your businesses and your households as well.

I look at my monthly bill from Ameren and get discouraged that it constantly goes up each month because of surcharges and taxes.

Who is going to "BAIL" me out and help me keep more of my hard earned money? I'll answer my own question. No one is. I have to cut costs just like a business should if they are having problems meeting their monthly bills. Unlike your business, I cannot pass my costs onto someone else.
