Helias individuals advance to state tennis

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Helias Lady Crusaders will send two singles players and a doubles team to the Class 1 state tournament after they all won their sectional matches Tuesday.

Ashley Dowden and Mary Conley will represent Helias in singles at state. Dowden won 6-0, 6-0 on Monday, while Conley was a 6-1, 6-0 winner.

In doubles, the team of Abby Dowden and Lauren Highfill won 6-1, 6-1 to advance.

The four will take part in the individual state tournament to be played Oct. 17-18 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

The Lady Crusaders will take part in the team sectionals Saturday in St. Louis hosted by Incarnate Word Academy. Helias, which advanced by winning its district tournament, will open against St. Dominic. With a win, Helias would face either Incarnate Word Academy or Villa Duchesne for the right to advance to state.

The team state tournament is Oct. 16 in Springfield.
