JC Parks-Rec wins national award for youth sports

The Jefferson City Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department has won the 2014 Excellence in Youth Sports awards from the National Alliance for Youth Sports, or NAYS.

According to a news release, the department was chosen from more than 100 youth sports programs across the country and received the award during the NAYS Youth Sports Congress in Orlando, Fla., last week.

"I hope this award will make even more of a positive impact within our community and surrounding areas," said Angie Toebben, recreation program supervisor for the department.

Nearly 4,000 children ages 4 to 18 participate in the department's youth sports program.
