EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Jewell Loyd had 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 3 Notre Dame to a 71-63 win over No. 15 Michigan State on Wednesday night.

Brianna Turner added 17 and Lindsay Allen had 14 for the Irish (2-0).

Aerial Powers scored 27 points and Tori Jankoska added 20 for the Spartans (1-1).

After scoring 29 points against UMass Lowell, a record in an Irish debut, Turner was blanked in 10 first-half minutes. But a layup to open the second half gave the Irish a 31-30 lead and triggered her 10-point burst in the first 4:23 of the period.

The Spartans kept battling on the boards and trailed 48-47. But a 10-2 spurt gave Notre Dame a nine-point cushion and its 22nd win in the last 28 tries against Big Ten teams.

No. 5 TEXAS A&M 76, RICE 55

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Courtney Walker scored 18 points to help Texas A&M beat Rice.

The Aggies kept the Owls at arms' length for most of the contest, and led 50-40 a little more than midway through the second half before pulling away. The Aggies shot 48 percent (29 of 60) from the floor compared to 30 percent (21 of 69) for the Owls, but Rice edged A&M in rebounding 42-40.

Sophomore forward Jasmine Goodwine led the Owls, who opened the season with a home victory over Prairie View A&M, with 12 points. She was the lone Owl to score in double figures.

Jordan Jones scored 11 points and Achiri Ade added 10 for the Aggies.

No. 9 Maryland 85, SOUTH FLORIDA 67

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 17 of her career-high 25 points in the first half to lead Maryland to a victory over South Florida.

Lexie Brown added 15 points and Laurin Mincy had 10 and for the Terrapins (3-0). Malina Howard had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Kristen Confroy also had 11 points off the bench for Maryland.

Courtney Williams scored 16 points for South Florida. Alisia Jenkins finished 12 with points and Laura Ferreira had 10 for the Bulls (2-1).

No. 11 NORTH CAROLINA 79, No. 21 OKLAHOMA STATE 77

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Stephanie Mavunga scored 18 points, including the game-winner with 34 seconds left, and hauled in 11 rebounds to lead North Carolina to a win over Oklahoma State.

After taking a 40-29 advantage into the break, North Carolina (3-0) had to hold off an Oklahoma State (2-1) rally in the second half. Allisha Gray added 22 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Xylina McDaniel had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Oklahoma State briefly retook the lead on a Brittany Atkins 3-pointer that made it 65-63 with 5:40 to go and tied it up again at 77-all with 53 seconds left when Roshunda Johnson, who had 21 points, hit another 3-pointer. But the Tar Heels quickly responded with Latifah Coleman dishing the ball to Mavunga for the winning shot.

LaShawn Jones had 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Cowgirls.

No. 13 KENTUCKY 91, MOREHEAD STATE 62

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Janee Thompson scored 15 points, Jennifer O'Neill added 14 and No. 13 Kentucky routed Morehead State.

Two days after rallying to beat No. 8 Baylor at Rupp Arena, the Wildcats (3-0) returned to Memorial Coliseum and scored 35 points off 24 turnovers in their annual midmorning game played before 5,923 fans, including 1,500 sixth-graders. Kentucky improved to 26-4 all-time against Morehead State (2-1), located 65 miles east of Lexington.

Linnae Harper had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Azia Bishop had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Kentucky, which outrebounded the Eagles 55-35.

No. 23 SYRACUSE 90, DUQUESNE 84

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Briana Day had 22 points and 19 rebounds, and Syracuse pulled away late from Duquesne.

Diamond Henderson added 22 points for the Orange (2-0), making all three of her 3-point attempts, and Cornelia Fondren made 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute.

Fondren hit a pair of free throws with 47 seconds left to cap a 12-3 run for the largest lead of the second half at 85-76.

April Robinson's 3-pointer with 19 seconds left pulled Duquesne (0-2) within 88-84.

Deva'Nyar Workman led Duquesne 24 points and 11 rebounds.

GREEN BAY 81, No. 24 PURDUE 78

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Kaili Lukan scored 20 points, including two free throws with 9 seconds left in double overtime, to help the Green Bay women upset Purdue.

Purdue had not lost a home opener since 1995, snapping a 19-game streak and is 38-2 all-time in home openers.

Mehryn Kraker and Sam Terry added 16 apiece for Green Bay (2-1).

Purdue (1-1) was paced by Ashley Morrissette with 23 points. Whitney Bays added 18, and Liza Clemons and Bridget Perry added 12 apiece.

No. 24 GEORGIA 67, OHIO STATE 59

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Tiaria Griffin scored 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, to lead No. 24 Georgia to a comeback win over Ohio State.

Trailing 28-24 at the break, Georgia (3-0) retook the lead during a 10-0 run fueled by Mackenzie Engram, who scored eight of the points, making it 55-50 with 3:44 to go. Ohio State (1-2) responded with a 3-pointer from Cait Craft to close the gap to two but the Lady Bulldogs pulled away down the stretch.

Shacobia Barbee contributed 13 points and seven rebounds, while Krista Donald and Engram had 12 points apiece for Georgia, which held a 50-37 rebounding advantage over Ohio State. Engram also had 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Kelsey Mitchell led Ohio State with 26 points and seven rebounds, while Craft added 17 points and Ameryst Alston had 13 rebounds.
