Fire crews hampered by water main break

Jefferson City firefighters responded to a smoke-filled attic at 601 Holiday Drive Thursday afternoon. Firefighters tried to get water from two fire hydrants, one nearly in front of the home and one about a half block away. Crews were able to access enough water to quickly douse the flames, but firefighters unrolled 100 feet of hose to reach the second hydrant in case they needed more water. Before returning, several firefighters, including Scott Kempker, below, and Ian Stick, Beth Gerling and Evan Jennings, hoist the five-inch line back into its bay on top of the truck.
