Police name pedestrians killed on I-70

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) - Authorities have identified two pedestrians who were struck and killed on Interstate 70 as brothers from suburban Kansas City.

Independence police said Friday the men were brothers - 28-year-old Jesse Winters, of Independence, and 24-year-old Jacob Winters, of Sugar Creek.

At least two vehicles, including an Independence police car, were involved in hitting the men as they walked along the interstate late Wednesday. The police officer had turned around to assist after seeing a car stopped beside the highway with its hazard lights flashing.

Investigators have not determined why the car had stopped.
