Grand jury indicts 3 Jefferson City residents

This week, the Cole County grand jury found there was enough evidence in several criminal cases to send them onto the circuit courts for possible trial.

Among those indicted were:

• A Jefferson City man who is charged with first-degree statutory sodomy for an incident at Memorial Pool in August. Edward Armstrong, 18, of 1405 W. Main St., also is charged with one count of attempted first-degree statutory sodomy.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the victim, who is a female under the age of 14, identified Armstrong from a photo lineup as her attacker. The victim said Armstrong forced her to inappropriately touch him and then pulled her by her arm into a wooded area near the pool where he again made her inappropriately touch him and fondled her.

The victim said two juveniles approached them, Armstrong put back on his clothes, and she was able to flee the area.

When interviewed, Armstrong admitted to making the victim touch him inappropriately and admitted to taking the victim into the wooded area, but said he did not force her to go there.

• A Jefferson City man who is charged with first-degree child molestation involving a female victim under the age of 10.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows a relative of the victim told police that Tyler Otto, 17, of 814 Montana St., lured the victim into a nearby home and then touched her inappropriately.

Otto claimed this never happened, but two witnesses told police Otto had told the victim to come into the home multiple times and that Otto was seen coming out with the victim from a bedroom, contradicting an earlier statement he gave saying they were always in separate rooms.

• A Jefferson City woman who was taken into custody following a drug raid in August. Dominique Helton, 24, who was on parole for burglary, vehicle theft and resisting arrest, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a defaced firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

She was taken into custody after the Jefferson City Police Department's SWAT team served a search warrant in the 1000 block of Buena Vista Street.

Marijuana, a substance suspected to be a club drug, drug money and a firearm were seized during the search.
