Your Opinion: Campaign blemished by character assassination

Dear Editor:

In 2013 Rand McNally named "Jefferson City as the most beautiful small town in America."

On being informed of the honor Ryan Burns, who was Jefferson City's Convention and Visitors Bureau's communications manager said, "you can see that (beauty) not only in the attractions and natural landscape, but you can see that in the people who live here."

Among the people who live here is Brian Stumpe who is presently running for circuit judge against Pat Joyce. He is being assisted in his campaign by an outside interest group with money that the News Tribune asserts, "has an unpleasant odor."

That Brian Stumpe would permit himself to be associated with the character assassination that this outside money is spending on his behalf is not only malodorous but also un-beautiful.

In addition, it is strong evidence that Brian Stumpe does not have the ethical integrity to be a judge on a circuit court bench. But most of all, it is a sad commentary: Sad for us. Sad for Brian. Sad for Pat.
