Alewine, Hawkins ready for national championships

Central Missouri senior Erin Alewine and Missouri S&T senior Adriel Hawkins are set to compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

The action gets underway today and runs through Saturday at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich.

Alewine (Jefferson City High School) is one of six athletes representing the Jennies, while Hawkins (Jefferson City High School) is one of six male athletes competing for the Miners.

Alewine will compete in the high jump and heptathlon. She is ranked seventh in the high jump at 5-8 and is ninth in the heptathlon with 4,989 points.

The first four events of the heptathlon will get underway at 10:30 a.m. today and conclude Friday morning. The women's high jump will start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Hawkins will run the 200-meter dash at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The indoor All-America sprinter is ranked 12th with a time of 21:00.

The national championships will conclude with the trophy presentations, which are tentatively scheduled for 9:20 p.m. Saturday.
