Wehmeyer advances to state

Kara Wehmeyer of Calvary Lutheran will make school history this week.

Wehmeyer is the first athlete from the school to advance to the state track and field championships after finishing second in the girls shot put in Class 1 sectional action Saturday.

Wehmeyer, who finished second in the sectional with a toss of 31 feet, 11 inches, will compete at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium. She is one of 16 athletes to advance to state in her event.

Calvary had two other athletes at sectional Saturday. John Meyer was sixth in the boys 1,600-meter run, while Samantha Gunn was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles. The top four sectional finishers advance to state.
