State association honors JC school board

The Jefferson City Board of Education has been recognized for excellence in governance by the Missouri School Boards Association.

Called the "2014 Governance Team Award," the honor is based on the district's commitment to ongoing professional development in areas such as student achievement, school law, finance, board operations and contemporary issues in education.

The honored school boards are: Bayless, Bolivar R-1, Branson R-5, Cameron R-1, Cape Girardeau 63, Columbia 93, Gasconade County R-1, Grain Valley R-5, Hannibal 60, Harrisonville R-9, Hazelwood, Independence, Jefferson City, Knob Noster R-8, Liberty 53, Maries County R-2, Nixa Public Schools, Park Hill, Reeds Spring R-4, Rolla 31, Webster Groves and Wright City R-2.

Those school boards won the awards by meeting certain criteria, such as: completing MSBA training, attaining advanced levels of MSBA certification; attending conferences and regional meetings; and participating in this year's legislative forum.

The award winners will be recognized June 6.
