Teacher charged with possession of child porn

A former Miller County teacher has been arrested for child pornography.

Stephen Strobel, 24, St. Elizabeth, was arrested by the Missouri Highway Patrol, and Miller County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Howard on Tuesday filed two felony charges of possession of child pornography against Strobel.

Strobel is to be arraigned in Miller County associate circuit court.

Based on a search warrant, Highway Patrol investigators seized a cellphone and computer from Strobel's home as part of the ongoing investigation, which began after law enforcement in Ohio provided information to Missouri officials.

Strobel had been employed as a teacher at the St. Elizabeth school district and has been placed on administrative leave.

Howard noted that the school district has cooperated fully with the law enforcement investigation, responded "absolutely correctly" and immediately took appropriate steps to notify and provide pertinent information to parents and students concerning the situation.

Howard said further charges against Strobel are possible.
