Falcons frosh split

COLUMBIA - The Blair Oaks Falcons split a pair of games Friday at Rock Bridge in the Columbia Freshman Tournament.

In their opener, the Falcons lost 6-5 to Battle.

Kade Franks had two hits and two RBI, Garrett Welschmeyer had two hits and one RBI, while Ryan Paschal and Ethan Rackers had two hits apiece.

Tanner Abbott took the loss, pitching the first five innings. He gave up six runs, although none of them were earned, on seven hits while striking out four. Paschal pitched the last inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

The Falcons then beat Hallsville 17-7 in five innings.

Jason Rackers got the win, pitching three innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits with two strikeouts. Cole Sandbothe pitched the final two, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit with three strikeouts.

Mason Gipe had three hits, including a double, and two RBI; Thomas Verslues had three hits and two RBI; Ethan Rackers had a single, a triple and two RBI; and Welschmeyer had two hits and three RBI. In addition, Ben Forck had one hit and two RBI and Jason Rackers had a double and one RBI.

Blair Oaks (22-7) will play in the event's fifth-place game at noon today at Battle.
