Officials identify woman as Springfield area college student

The Missouri Highway Patrol Water Division continue efforts to locate and recover a woman who jumped from the Lake of the Ozarks Community Bridge Monday afternoon in Lake Ozark.

Upon arrival officers found a white passenger vehicle parked near the bridge with no one around. Witnesses along the shoreline said they observed a woman with long black hair climb over the bridge rail and then saw her enter the water a few seconds later. She surfaced briefly but then went back under the water, Maples said.

Based on a note officers found in the vehicle it is believed the woman committed suicide, according to Maples. He said the woman was a 20-year-old, full-time college student at Missouri State University in Springfield.

Rescuers with the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District search team and officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Water Patrol Division, instituted an immediate search. The Water Patrol Dive Team was later dispatched to the area to lead the recovery effort, which is ongoing.

Officers from the Camden County Sheriff's Department, as well as the Osage Beach and Sunrise Beach Fire Protection Districts assisted in the investigation.
