Lincoln women win Washington University track title

ST. LOUIS — The Lincoln University women’s track and field team racked up 152 points while rolling to the title at Saturday’s Washington University Invitational.
The Blue Tigers recorded 10 first-place finishes at the two-day event.
Janae Johnson had two of those wins, taking first in the 100- (11.79) and 200-meter dashes (23.83). She also teamed with Juneille Barker, Yanique Ellington and Ladonna Richards to win the 4x100-meter relay (46.44).
Monique Thompson was also a double-winner, as she took first in the 1,500-meter run (4:35.12) and the 800-meter run (2:11.48).
Other individual winners were Lovan Palmer in the 400-meter dash (57.98), Tamara Keane in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.53), Barker in the 100-meter hurdles (14.20) and Shakeisha Miller in the long jump (18-6).
The Blue Tigers also won the 4x400-meter relay (3:50.58) with Palmer, Ellington, Dereka Kelly and Donna-Lee Hylton.
Also for Lincoln, Miller was second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.27) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (25.42), Jhevere Hall was second in the 800-meter run (2:15.89), Willomena Williams was third in the 800-meter run (2:19.48), Ebony Rose was fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.12), Nickeisha Beaumont was seventh in the 200-meter dash (25.85), and Richards was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.12).
On the men’s side, Lincoln won three events and took third with 66 points. Wisconsin-Platteville was first with 75 and Lewis was second with 70.
Lincoln won the 4x400-meter relay (3:17.16) with Michael Ashley, Winston Edwards, Jermaine Blake and Romel Lewis, and also won the 4x100-meter relay (41.02) with Ashley, Lewis, Khorey Spalding and Romone Hill.
Hill was also an individual winner, taking first in the 200-meter dash (21.47).
Also for the Blue Tigers, Stallone Watson took second in both the long jump (21-71/2) and the 110-meter hurdles (14.88), Edwards was second in the 400-meter hurdles (53.02), Ashley was third in the 200-meter dash (21.67) and Wesley Best was fifth in the 200-meter dash (21.84).
Truman State’s Matthew Schaefer (Helias High School) was sixth in the 800-meter run (1:56.30) and part of the Bulldogs’ 4x400-meter relay team that finished fifth (3:20.47).
Griffin McCurren (Helias High School) was part of Saint Louis’ fifth-place team in the 4x400-meter relay (3:20.47).
