Your Opinion: Show compassion; expand Medicaid

Dear Editor:

According to what I read and/or hear on the news, our Missouri Republican legislators are refusing to expand Medicaid to many Missourians currently in need of it.

The reason they have chosen to do this is said to be because they do not like President Obama's Affordable Care Act, even though the federal government would pay for the cost right now, with more to come for awhile after the expansion.

If Missouri refuses federal money, our taxpayers will have to fund our Medicaid program and the federal money will be sent to another state who wants to expand their program.

Why would our Republican legislators let their dislike of President Obama cause them to cut off their (our) noses to spite their (our) faces? Why is spite more important than showing our humanity toward our people in need of Medicaid?

Whether our legislators are either humanists and/or followers of a religion, they surely must believe in some kind of love for all of our citizens. That being the case, I sincerely plead with members of both the House and Senate to change their minds and expand our Medicaid program to include all those in need of this humane concern for the help they currently cannot afford.

Love is always the best choice.
