LU tracksters named All-Americans

Seventeen members of Lincoln's indoor track and field teams combined to earn 24 All-American distinctions, the United States and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Six Lincoln athletes earned multiple All-American honors, which were bestowed upon athletes that scored at least one point at last weekend's NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Lincoln women, who finished third at the national meet, tied winner Adams State and fourth-place finisher Grand Valley State for the most All-American honors. Five Blue Tiger athletes picked up multiple All-American distinctions, the second most from any program in the country.

Yanique Ellington led the way for the Lincoln women with three All-American awards after scoring points in the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Ellington was also a part of the 4x400-meter relay team, along with Jhevere Hall, Donna Lee-Hylton and Lovan Palmer.

Hall and Hylton joined forces to earn All-American status with Twishana Williams and Monique Thompson in the distance medley relay. Williams and Thompson also scored points in the 800.

Ladonna Richards and Juneille Barker picked up honors in the 60-meter hurdles, while Nickeisha Beaumont and Shakeisha Miller were each recognized in the long jump.

Janae Johnson, earning recognition in the 200, rounded out the All-American honorees for the Lincoln women, who posted a top-three result at the indoor meet for the ninth time in the past 11 years.

Michael Ashley led the Lincoln men, who took 15th at the national championships, with two All-American awards.

Ashley was recognized individually for his performance in the 400, as well as being part of the Blue Tigers' 4x400-meter relay team. Also receiving honors on that squad were Winston Edwards, Jermaine Blake and Roger Blake.

Rounding out Lincoln's All-Americans were Romone Hill (60 meters) and Romel Lewis (200 meters).

Both Lincoln teams received the most All-American honors of any Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association program.

Central Missouri was next next among women's team with four honorees. Missouri Southern, Nebraska-Kearney and Pittsburg State tied for second among men's programs with three honors apiece.
