Local athletes headed to nationals

Three local athletes will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the NCAA Division II National Indoor Track and Field Championships, which start today.

Erin Alewine (Jefferson City High School), Adriel Hawkins (Jefferson City High School) and Daniel McCarty (Blair Oaks High School) will all represent their respective universities.

Alewine, a senior at Central Missouri, is ranked first in the women's pentathlon with 3,901 points. Alewine is also ranked 10th in the high jump (1.76 meters) and is part of the Jennies' 400-meter relay team ranked 14th (3:51.63).

Hawkins, a senior at the University of Missouri S&T, is ranked 6th in the men's 200-meter dash (21.60 seconds) and is 15th in the 60 (6.79).

McCarty, a sophomore at Central Missouri, is 10th in the men's heptathlon (5,004 points) and is part of the Mules' 400-meter relay team ranked 17th (3:18.58).
