Lincoln at tourney

EDMOND, Okla. - Sophia Pardalos shot a 173 to lead the Lincoln women's golf team as the Blue Tigers finished in last place at the two-day Central Oklahoma Kickingbird Classic that wrapped up Tuesday.

The Blue Tigers, playing in their first match of the spring season, finished with a final score of 795 to take 16th in the 16-team field.

Paradlos finished an 86 on Monday and carded an 87 on Tuesday to tie for 52nd in the field, the best finish by a Lincoln golfer. Payton Schooler posted the next-best score for the Blue Tigers, who fielded a four-player squad, shooting a 174 after posting an 87 in both rounds.

Lauren McHenry shot a 203, carding a 95 in the first round and a 108 in the second round, while Mackenzie Wilson rounded out Lincoln's performances with a 245.

The UCO Classic was the first designated Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association event of the spring. Central Oklahoma, the host school, posted the best finish by an MIAA team, taking fourth with a score of 625.

Northeastern State finished fifth (635), while Lindenwood was eighth (669) and Central Missouri took 10th (686) to round out the top finishers in the league. Also competing from the MIAA were Northwest Missouri (11th, 687), Nebraska-Kearney (12th, 695), Missouri Western (13th, 703), Fort Hays State (14th, 757) and Southwest Baptist (15, 780).

Oklahoma Christian was the top team, finishing with a team score of 611, while Arkansas Tech finished second at 613, and Oklahoma City (614) finished third.

The Blue Tigers will continue their spring slate next week, traveling to Mesa, Ariz., for the FHSU Invitational, held at the Dobson Ranch Golf Course. The two-day tournament will be hosted by Fort Hays State on March 17-18.

Owls split pair

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The William Woods Owls shut out Baker to start Tuesday's doubleheader, but the Wildcats turned the tables on the Owls in the nightcap.

William Woods won the opener 4-0 as MacKenzie Bowden (Jefferson City High School) twirled a three-hitter and struck out 15 while walking just one.

Lindsey LeCuru (Helias High School) gave her all the support she would need by rapping a three-run triple in the third inning. LeCuru drove in the game's other run with a single in the seventh.

Hannah Campbell (Russellville High School) had a single and a double to account for the rest of William Woods' hits in the game.

In the second game, the Owls managged just one hit while falling 3-0.

William Woods will finally get to open the home portion of its schedule Friday after a month on the road to start the season. The Owls take on Benedictine University at 2 p.m.
