A water main break near Jefferson City's Old Munichburg neighborhood shut down two lanes of Dunklin Street on Friday afternoon.

The break happened close to the intersection of Dunklin Street and Missouri Boulevard. A 10-inch main was impacted, said Ann Dettmer, communications manager for Missouri American Water Company.

"The two southbound lanes are shut down," Dettmer reported. "But not a lot of businesses have been impacted. We are working on the repair now," she said around 1:50 p.m.

Only one business, Family Pawn, was out of water for a short period Friday. All services have been restored.

Dettmer wasn't certain what factors led to the main break.

"It can be hard to pinpoint what causes these to happen," she said. "Sometimes when temperatures rise, and we start to move more water through some of the older mains with more pressure, things break.

"But we're not sure what happened in this case."
