Grayson convicted of stealing, gets four years

A Columbia man has been sentenced to prison in connection with a series of thefts from motor vehicles that occurred in April 2013 on the east side of Jefferson City.

Sheldon Grayson, 18, was charged with one count of felony stealing. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in prison, to be served concurrently with a prison sentence he received in another case.

Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements show two individual fingerprints were found on a victim's vehicle during the course of the investigation.

The fingerprints were analyzed by the Missouri Highway Patrol Crime Lab and came back with Grayson as a suspect.

On April 30, 2013, Boone County sheriff's deputies were involved in a pursuit with a vehicle after a report of shots fired.

The vehicle was the same one used in the Jefferson City thefts.

The vehicle crashed and Grayson fled the area on foot but was eventually caught.

A search of the vehicle resulted in numerous stolen items, including a Missouri identification card for the owner of the vehicle in which Grayson's prints were recovered. Stolen firearms and ammunition were also recovered.

Grayson was in possession of the stolen firearms and was a convicted felon at the time of the pursuit.
