Your Opinion: Reject sales tax for transportation

Dear Editor:

The three-fourths percent sales tax is a boondoggle. Already disclaimers are popping up about "not all the funds will go to roads and bridges" while admitting some funds will be diverted into other projects such as sidewalks, bike trails, etc.

Apparently, each district will determine their own funds usage although the statewide tax is being presented as a panacea for our ailing highways and infrastructure. Worse yet, political bribery is ongoing as Jefferson City residents are being told if the tax passes, the buses will run longer (appeal to the poor) and even a lengthening of the runway at the Jefferson City Airport (although our "fearless' city commission shipped off $100,000 to the Columbia Airport not very long ago.)

Pseudo-conservatives such as Jay Barnes and Mike Kehoe haven't met a tax they didn't like (or toll roads), but people should reject this farce.
