Jefferson City couple charged with vandalism at park

A Jefferson City couple has been charged in connection with vandalism at Countryside Park in Taos.

William Fowler, 38, is charged with second-degree burglary, first-degree property damage and stealing.

Stephanie Fowler, 35, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, second-degree burglary, first-degree property damage and stealing.

According to a Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement, the park manager reported copper and power cords had been cut Saturday from an air conditioning unit in the park building.

The lock on the shed attached to the park building had been cut and two gas cans were taken. The door to the concession stand had also been damaged.

On Monday, another report was made of damage to a ballfield at the park. Power cables and coaxial cables had been cut from the scoreboard.

Stephanie later admitted to deputies that she and William went to the park and committed the vandalism.

She said they went back home and William stripped and burnt the wires so he could obtain the copper from inside them.

They eventually took the items to be scrapped for money.
