Rainbow/Country Club intersection project cancelled

A scheduled three-way stop installation at Rainbow Drive and Country Club Drive for next Monday has been cancelled.

Cole County Public Works Department officials said during the road closures on the improvements of Business 50 in Apache Flats this past week, officials watched this intersection and didn't see any significant increase in traffic that would cause any issues.

The project management team discussed the issue and decided it would be best to not install the three-way stop at this time.

"We will see how the project progresses, and when school starts up again in August at Pioneer Trail School, we will review the 3-way stop again to see if it is warranted," said County Engineer Eric Landwehr.

Landwehr added when the project was in the design phase last year they expected the road to be closed to local traffic for most of this year.

However, the contractor, Don Schnieders Excavating, was able to determine a way to build the new road and leave traffic lanes open for almost the whole project duration. Therefore, the flow of traffic in and around the area has not changed as had been anticipated.
