Lawsuit seeks to block subdivision near state park

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A residential development under construction near Rock Bridge State Park in Boone County is being challenged in court by environmental groups that say the project threatens water quality and wildlife.

The Parkside Estates subdivision south of Columbia sits on 35 acres next to the state park. Developer Southside Trails Estates is clearing land for 76 homes on the site.

The Great Rivers Environmental Law Center of St. Louis filed suit last week on behalf of Friends of Rock Bridge Memorial State Park and Columbia residents Ken Midkiff and Sandy McCann. The civil suit also names the city of Columbia and a project contractor.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources issued the developer a notice of violation in April because of water pollution.
