Lady Jays shut out Nixa for first trip to semifinals

NIXA, Mo. - The Jefferson City Lady Jays added to a pair of soccer school records Saturday.

And made a little program history.

Jefferson City scored three times in the second half Saturday afternoon in posting a 4-0 victory against the Nixa Lady Eagles in Class 3 sectional action.

"It really wasn't a 4-0 game," Jefferson City coach Eddie Horn said. "We got the lead and they had to start selling out a little bit."

With the win, Jefferson City added to its records with its 22nd win and 19th shutout.

"Those are some pretty impressive numbers," Horn said.

Jefferson City (22-4-1, ranked No. 4) will face St. Teresa's Academy (22-0, ranked No. 1) in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday at Blue Springs South High School. St. Teresa's is ranked No. 1 in the country by a variety of media services.

"We're comfortable defending in our half, we're going to have to be patient in our end and be able to take advantage of the chances we're going to get," Horn said.

This will be the first trip to the Final Four for the Jefferson City girls program.

Jefferson City got on the board Saturday when Sarah Luebbert headed in a long serve by Kaley Ruff midway through the first half.

The Lady Jays made it 2-0 midway through the second half when she headed in a corner kick.

"We wanted to get some traffic in front of their keeper and when we did that, Alyssa was right there to head it in," Horn said.

Megan Martens and Natalie Vance also scored for Jefferson City.

Megan Foster was in goal for the Lady Jays.

"They didn't do a whole lot against us," Horn said."They had a couple of decent chances."

It is just the third time Nixa has been shutout this season.

The Jefferson City boys program has advanced once to the Final Four under Horn, finishing fourth in 1998.
