More area photos added to Vietnam memorial

Another five Central Missouri servicemembers have had photos posted at the Faces Never Forgotten project, honoring their ultimate sacrifice serving their country during the Vietnam War.

The News Tribune reported July 7 that 24 area soldiers, Marines and airmen were among the names without photos at www.vvmf/Wall-of-Faces.

Within a week, two photos had been uploaded. With the latest additions, the number of area servicemembers without photos stands at 17.

Missourians whose names are etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., number 1,411. And 695 of those await photos, too.

Sgt. John Bamvakais, Pvt. Michael Forck, Sgt. Jeffrey Hicks, Capt. Eugene McKinney and Spc. Larry Smith will be remembered through this Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation project.

Family or friends with photos of the remaining Mid-Missouri servicemembers are invited to upload their image directly to the Web site page.

A list of the original 24 soldiers can be found at www.newstribune.com/vietnam.
