JC man leads deputies on chase, faces drug charges

A Jefferson City man has been charged with leading Cole County deputies on a chase Friday and trying to get rid of drugs that he had in his possession.

Cody Williams, 48, of 127 W. Haven Drive, was being held on $200,000 bond.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement shows deputies knew Williams was at a trailer on Heritage Highway and had a no bond warrant out on him.

Williams was seen leaving the trailer, and deputies began to follow him.

Eventually they caught up with him at Zion Road and Country Club Drive.

Williams turned onto Country Club and failed to stop when a deputy turned on his siren and emergency lights.

He continued down Country Club to Route C where there was another vehicle at the stop sign.

Williams drove his vehicle into the grass, went on the right shoulder and then went east on Route C and begin dumping items out.

The items appeared slightly white in color and a crystal substance.

Williams did this four times, dropping plastic baggies on the road after he emptied the contents.

Six to eight baggies were dropped out the vehicle during the pursuit.

When Williams approached the intersection of Rockridge Road and C, he went north onto Rockridge and stopped his vehicle.

Deputies were able to take Williams into custody without incident.

A search of the vehicle found a crystal substance on the driver's seat which was believed to be methamphetamine.
