Boehm added to Rimington watch list

COLUMBIA - Expectations are high for Evan Boehm as he enters his junior year with the Missouri football program.

The Tigers' center was named to the 2014 Rimington Trophy fall watch list, the awards committee announced Tuesday.

Boehm, Missouri's leader in the middle of the offensive line, is one of 66 centers from across the country named to the list.

As a sophomore, Boehm started all 14 games at center, anchoring the Tigers' 12-2 campaign that garnered a Southeastern Conference Eastern Division title and Cotton Bowl Classic championship.

Boehm was a big part of Missouri's ground attack, which ranked second in the SEC and 16th nationally at 237.9 yards per game.

Boehm has been a mainstay on the Tigers' offensive line since he arrived in Columbia as a freshman in 2012. The Lee's Summit West High School graduate started all 12 games at left guard in his inaugural season at Missouri and earned First Team Freshman All-America recognition from College Football News.

Boehm later made the transition to center during spring drills in 2013.

The Remington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in college football. The 15-year award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus First Team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's best college interior lineman.
