St. Elizabeth tops state-ranked Tuscumbia

TUSCUMBIA - Allie Heckemeyer and Savannah Stiles combined for 53 points as the St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets upset Tuscumbia, the second-ranked team in the state in Class 1, 72-59 on Monday night.

Heckemeyer scored a career-high 27 points and tied her career high with 13 rebounds. She also added seven assists and five blocks in a tremendous all-around effort. Stiles, meanwhile, was close behind in the scoring column with 26 points.

For Tuscumbia (14-2), Kendra Vaughan led the way with 22 points, while Summer Rush had 10.

St. Elizabeth led 25-17 after one quarter, 37-29 at halftime and 53-45 after three quarters.

St. Elizabeth (8-6) will open play in the Eldon Tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday against O'Fallon Christian.
