Jays get past Word of Life in boys basketball

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays ended the Kaminsky Classic on an upswing, capturing a 58-46 win against Word of Life (Wichita, Kan.) in Saturday's third-place game.

The Jays held a slim 15-14 lead after one quarter, but pushed the advantage to 32-25 by halftime. Word of Life trimmed the lead to 42-37 after three quarters, but Jefferson City had a 16-9 scoring edge in the final period.

O.G. Anunoby, who earned all-tournament team honors for the second straight year, pumped in 17 points to lead the Jays and also had nine rebounds and two blocks.

Jake White added 10 points in a balanced Jefferson City effort, as Harold Robertson Jr. had nine and Lucas Theroff and Darion Jones added eight apiece.

This was the second straight third-place finish for Jefferson City in the event.

Jefferson City is back in action Tuesday at Battle in Columbia.
