Woman pleads guilty in JC Penney theft

A Jefferson City woman has been placed on probation for pleading guilty to forcibly stealing items from JC Penney at Capital Mall in July 2013.

Lauren Distler, 23, of 2073 Turkey Gulch, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor stealing and misdemeanor assault charges.

She had been charged with second-degree robbery.

Distler was placed on two years unsupervised probation and must complete 30 days with an electronic shackle as part of the probation.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Distler attempted to steal more than $200 in merchandise.

A loss-prevention officer attempted to detain Distler, but she punched, bit and pushed the officer.

Distler was able to get to her vehicle and fled the scene, but later was picked up.
