Lincoln men, women to host Emporia State

The Lincoln men’s and women’s basketball teams will resume play in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association when the Blue Tigers host Emporia State today at Jason Gym.
The women kickoff the action at 1:30 p.m., while the men will follow at 3:30.
The Blue Tiger women (3-8, 0-4) are looking for their first MIAA win this season against Emporia State (12-0, 3-0). The undefeated Hornets are currently the No. 3 team in the country according to USA Today Sports and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Division II poll.
Lincoln, which is coming off a 74-66 loss to Washburn on Dec. 19, is led by versitle guard Angela Randall. The sophomore paces the Blue Tigers in rebounding (6.4), assists (2.3), and steals (2.2), and is second on the team in scoring (10.2 ppg). Hunter Yoakum is close behind at 10.7 points, while Jennier Rosado also averages double digits at 10.1.
The Hornets, who average 79.2 points a game, have three players averaging double digits. Laura Patrick leads the pack with 15.6, while Merissa Quick (11.8 ppg.) and Kionna Kellog (11.0 ppg.) round out the top end of Emporia State’s scoring.
Meanwhile, the Lincoln men (2-10, 0-4) will try to end a four-game losing streak against the Hornets (8-5, 1-2).
The Blue Tigers, who have lost five straight since claiming a 101-98 win over Talladega (Ala.) on Nov. 30, are led by junior forward Mike Smith. Smith’s 15.4 points per night is the 14th-best in the MIAA.
Joshua Buie adds to Lincoln’s attack with 13.2 points per game and Clay Crouch rounds out the scoring at 13.1.
Kaleb Wright leads Emporia State in scoring (15.5 ppg.), while Terrence Moore leads the Hornets in steals (33) and is second on the team with 13.5 points per game.
