Man sentenced for assaulting ex-girlfriend

A Jefferson City man was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in prison after a jury found him guilty in an assault case.

Joseph Bax, 53, was found guilty of second-degree domestic assault and violation of an order of protection.

The case stemmed from an incident that occurred in August 2013 when Bax showed up drunk at his estranged girlfriend's apartment in violation of an order of protection.

They argued and Bax took her cellphone away from her when she attempted to call for help.

She attempted to get help from a neighbor before Bax dragged her back to her apartment. There he choked and continued to assault her.

A jury in December 2013 took just six minutes to come back with a guilty verdict.
