Capital 8 throwing Oscar watch party

The Goodrich Capital 8 Theater in Jefferson City is throwing an Oscar watch party on Sunday. Admission is free, and will feature trivia contests and prize giveaways during the commercial breaks of the live broadcast, starting at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the theater lobby will be transformed into a red carpet with staff wearing black-tie apparel.

Manager Bob Wilkins said 50 people showed up at the party last year and many were dressed up for the occasion. There were door prizes and awards for the oldest and youngest members in the audience.

Seating will be limited to one theater; the other seven theaters will be in operation and concessions will be sold. For more information, call the Goodrich Capital 8 Theater at 573-893-3811.

The Goodrich Capital 8 Theater and News Tribune are sponsors of an Academy Award Contest to see who can best predict the winners of the gold statues. The final ballot will run in the News Tribune on Friday, and all contest entries must be received by 5 p.m. that day at the office on 210 Monroe St., or hand delivered to the Capital 8 Theater prior to 5 p.m. Sunday. The ballots will be tabulated after the Academy Awards presentation to determine the first, second and third prize winners who will receive cash and movie passes.
