Lincoln sweeps awards in MIAA track

For the third time this month, Lincoln has swept the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Track Athlete of the Week awards.

Monique Thompson was named the MIAA Women's Track athlete of the Week, while Stallone Watson was honored as the MIAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Thompson broke two meet records with a pair of wins Saturday at the DePauw Classic.

Thompson won the 800-meter run in 2:12.91, a provisional qualifying time that ranks seventh in the country and third in the MIAA. The sophomore was also a member of Lincoln's distance medley team, which broke the meet record with a time of 11:57.59, a provisional mark that ranks 13th nationally.

Watson won the 60-meter hurdles Friday at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge, taking first with a time of 8.20 seconds. That mark, a provisional qualifier, ranks second in the MIAA and is tied for 25th nationally.

Watson, a freshman, was a double winner at that meet, taking the title in the long jump with a provisional mark of 7.11 meters.

Lincoln has swept the honors for the third time this month.
