Helias' Schulte splits

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Jacob Schulte of Helias went 1-1 on Friday and was eliminated from the Class 3 state wrestling tournament.

Schulte, a junior, opened the day with a 3-0 victory against Josh Kemper, a sophomore from Fort Zumwalt South, in the second round of wrestlebacks.

Friday night, Schulte squared off against Austin Minx of DeSoto in the third round of wrestlebacks. Schulte used a first-period takedown to take a 2-0 lead into the final period. Starting up, Minx was able to work Schulte onto his back late in the period to win by fall in 4:44.

Schulte ends the season at 33-14.

Helias finishes the tournament with three team points.
