Your Opinion: Climate alarmists adjust the rules

Dear Editor:

Climate alarmists remind me of those people who want to teach you poker for money. One quickly learns that they change the rules to make sure they are the winners and you end up losing. A prime example is the report just leaked that shows the warming has slowed or even stopped all together. Not wanting to lose, the alarmists are now talking about how to adjust the data, change the point of reference and find an excuse for where all that heat went. Right now they are telling the public it went into the deep oceans; ARGO's data doesn't support this. What does this really mean, they have no clue what is going on and are making things up as they go, just as long as a gullible public will buy it.

When dealing with the issue of climate change one must first ignore the hype, the exaggerated headlines and start using science basics. Alarmists are truthful but they are also very dishonest.

Take for example Sochi, it was announced that the temps were so high and dry they had to make snow which is the truth. If they were honest they would have also noted that Sochi is a subtropical climate that seldom drops below 37 degrees in winter and normally has spotty snow. Yet they used the situation to get hundreds of athletes to sign petitions demanding action on ACC. It gets worse, while a few weeks ago they dismissed the cooler temps in North America as not being global enough, they are now saying it is an example of ACC.

They are using their dishonesty to have new coal regulations passed that would raise our electric rates from 50- 75 percent. Look at your bills from this winter and now increase it by 50-75 percent. This will only be the tip of the iceberg as they also want to add a carbon tax. If the tax is modeled after the one in Australia, it would add another 14-22 percent percent on top for the first year and increase every year after. So you could be paying 65-97 percent more a month for just electric.

Regulations that have been put in effect are already having a negative effect on Central Missouri's economy; just look at the jobs lost when Chamois Missouri's coal-fired power plant shut down. Do you really want more taxes and regulations?
