JC teen faces robbery, assault charges

A 16-year-old Jefferson City resident has been charged as an adult in connection with the robbery of a convenience store as well as an assault of a student at Jefferson City High School.

Jamel Sutton, 1401 St. Mary's Blvd., is charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, second-degree assault and resisting arrest.

Police reports show Sutton entered the Bee Line Snack Shop, 1100 Missouri Blvd., on Nov. 21 and pointed a handgun at the clerk, demanding money.

Sutton concealed part of his face with a scarf and threatened the clerk with what appeared to be a black semi-automatic pistol. The clerk handed over the money from the register. Sutton then fled the scene on foot to his residence on St. Mary's Boulevard.

Information was received as to Sutton's identity, and he was later located and detained by officers without further incident. A black air soft pistol used in the robbery was recovered.

Police reports show Sutton was charged with assault on Nov. 6 after setting a female student's hair on fire while in line for lunch. A lighter that was dropped on the ground near where the incident occurred, and a search of Sutton's bag found an open package of cigarettes.
